Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
Skilled interventional gastroenterologists use endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to assess digestive and lung diseases. This nonsurgical procedure uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of the lining and walls of the upper and lower digestive tract and nearby organs such as the pancreas, liver and gallbladder. EUS is a minimally invasive procedure. Dr. Mallat expertly uses EUS-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) of the pancreas to diagnose and stage pancreatic cancer. The clinical impact of EUS-guided FNA includes avoiding surgery and additional imaging studies offering substantial cost savings.
